I do not believe in horoscopes. In fact, I find them ridiculous. That's something my father and I have in common; my mother, however, is very persistent in trying to change our minds. According to her, everybody ought to give in to fate as it simply cannot be changed. She doesn't believe in coincidences. I once accidentally left my wallet at home before I went out. When I was passing by a nearby shop, I noticed a pair of shoes on discount. I wanted to buy them, but the spare change I found in my pockets wasn't enough. By the time I came back with more money, the price had decreased even more. I say it was due to luck, but according to my mother, it was due to the alignment of the planets. Though she can be a little annoying sometimes, I generally don't mind her hobby.
The belief in horoscopes is pretty common in our neighbourhood. One marriage even split up due to the wife being obsessed with tarot to the point where she refused to do the dishes, make the bed or do any other chores; she was too preoccupied with telling her neighbours their fortunes to do anything else. That lady really stood out. She used to rent a spot at the beach and orginize meetings of the Fortune Tellers Club there - one at noon and one at midnight. Whenever she bumped into someone she knew, she would immediately try to convince them to come to one of her club's meetings, however, most people, apart from few, brushed such an inappropriate behaviour off and never turned up. To my knowledge, there were seven members of the club at most when their leader was alive, but even though it was unlikely, that number started increasing after she passed away.
Her death took the whole neighbourhood by surprise as it was very sudden. Apparently, her electric kettle broke down, but the shop she had bought it from refused to give her a refund, so she just carried on using it, even though it was dangerous. One night it caught on fire and started emiting carbon monoxide, but by the time the fire alarm went off, the lady had already passed out. It happened at night and after her divorce she lived on her own, so by the time anybody found out about the accident, she had already passed away. The members of the Fortune Tellers Club started having suspicions when their leader didn't turn up to their Saturday meeting which was very odd because she was always available on the weekends and had never missed a single one so far. They called her, but she didn't pick up, so they set off for her house at once to check if she was ok. Unfortunately, she wasn't.
The Fortune Tellers Club ladies didn't slack off when it turned out that the lady who was in charge of their club was gone. They were convinced that her death couldn't have happened by accident because then she would have been able to read it from the stars. However, she didn't which to them meant that someone got rid of her on purpose. They prepared a funeral for her and and as they were laying her down in a coffin, they were singing spells they had learned by heart and promised her that they would never give up on looking for the truth behind her supposed murder.
A jak ktoś wyczai tu jakieś błędy językowe czy ortograficzne, to proszę mnie oświecić, bo jakby nie patrzeć, sama się nadal uczę! c;
